The 1948 Stylemaster and Fleetmaster had the CHEVROLET script on the lid. The Fleetline had the FLEETLINE script on the lid.

The above also applies to the 1942-47 molels. The 1947 Fleetline also had th bow-tie badge with red trim on the lid.

Its was installed at the factory on all Fleetlines in 1947.
1948 owners may have stolen them off the 1947 to up-grade their cars. laugh

When the chrome guy lost my first medallion maybe something was telling me I shouldn't put it on the car....But I found another one and it made its way on the lid...Another strange note is that the Washington 1948 license plate is a 1947 they did not make plates in 1948

The up-grade comment was a joke.

This is how Chevrolet explained it;
"Fleetline Trunk Decoration Simplified".....The rear deck of the Fleetline series cars is treated with a new clean-cut simplicity for 1948. The emblem carring the Chevrolet trade mark has been eleminated, leaving only the name Fleetline, in bright metal script as a decoration. All other rear deck hardware remains the same."

Wisconsin didn't issue new plates during and after the war also. They would give you a little tab with the year on it and it clipped over the old year....now days they use a sticker and we get new plates every several years.

In 1948 Washington State issued "quite large" rear window stickers

Hi guys, I have just picked up a '47 Fleetline Sport Sedan out of 35 years of storage. It has 80K and is unrestored. I have the emblem on the trunk but the bow tie is blue and has no sign of ever being red. Also, there are holes in the trunk for the script fleetline and on the inside of the trunk lid there are, what looks like original rubber bumpers covinging tiny little emblem spikes but... there is no Fleetline script on the outside? I am perplexed about this. It doesn't look like the trunk lid was repaired. Could anyone explain what happened? Why would they have a "Script Delete" option? Thanks,

Steve

The emblem on the trunk was used in 1947 only, The bow tie is always blue. The area around the bow tie is red. All Fleetlines had the Fleetline script on the lid. Can't explain what happened but there was no delete, etc.

I agree with you 100%. I once owned a '47 Aerosedan that had the trunk emblem. I have also owned 3 '48 Aerosedans and none of them had the emblem. However...I find it interesting that the 1948 Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog lists the emblem (Group 12.182, P/N 3685099) as fitting 1947-48 Jobs 1007-69. You wouldn't think they'd list it for a car that wouldn't have had the holes in the lid to mount it. Any chance they used up any stock they had on early '48s?????

Well, we found out that the first owner did touch up the trunk. The script "Fleetline" broke off and instead of replacing the emblem they kept the pegs with rubber tabs on the inside as fillers and leaded over the area on the outside hence the missing script. Hmm? blush Learning new things daily.
