I.ve just received a gasket kit for my 36 chevy truck three speed tranmision from VCCA'vendor. My leaky transmision requires checking fluid level monthly. Are there any secrets on installingg gaskets? also, is there a fix for a leaky spedo cable connection?

Where does the speedo connection leak? Is It at the base where It screws In to the trans. or Is It around the shaft as It exits? Richard

Is your 36 a low or high cab. On the low cab the speedo gear placement is above the fluid level. It will receive lubrication from the u-joint gear, but I can't imagine It leaking a substantial amount. I would think that It would not leak If tight. The high cab speedo gear Is low enough to sit in fluid. If It is tight It should not leak, but you could fashion a gasket to try and stop It. Richard

In most cases a felt seal was used to stop leaks in the speedometer cable attachment to the transmission. It is in the shape of a doughnut.

Are starters interchangeable for a 36 pick-up with newer models. Thought I could get one from Napa.

I believe that starters are interchangable from 1929-1939 only. I can't imagine that too many auto parts stores would have a starter that old. Modern or newer starters would mount differently, engage differently and be 12 volts.

Open it up ! Take a look ! It might only need brushes...and possibly some bushings...Auto Electric Guy has that , too.

I am planning on replacing the old bias ply tires on my 36 pick up.I might consider radial tires as opposed to bias ply. any pro or cons?

Starters interchange for all '35 and '36 and some '34. If you have an old time "Mom and Pop" auto parts store nearby, you might find the brushes and bushings. PM me if you need some numbers for them to interchange. As previously stated, your best bet is a local auto electric guy, if you have one. My local guy is good and reasonable on his prices. I will give you his number if it turns out you have to send your starter off for repairs. Good luck.

I asked yesterday If any one knew about replacing Old Bias Ply tires on a 1936 Chevy Pick-up. I was wondering if it was possible to use radial tires on this truck. Any suggestions
