Did Chevy ever produce a rubber pad for the gas pedal, that had the Chevy script on it??
I have seen many slip on pads for the clutch and break pedals, but no pad for the gas pedal, did they ever have a rubber cover for this year or would this of been a an add on part??

There was no rubber cover for the clutch, brake, or throttle control.

Thank's AntiqueMechanic
I kinda figured they didn't have covers but was not sure, It would of been nice if the pedals did have covers with the Chevy script.
I am cleaning up the gas pedal for a new coat of paint, and noticed that the return spring that's on the shaft was broken and missing a good sized piece from it, would you happen to know what the length of the spring is ???
Do they make replacement springs for this application?

You can purchase a spring from Gary Wallace (314-293-1991) for $6.00. You will need to form the extension rod by yourself. Very small welding rod works excellent. Check the bottom of the cowl above the starter for a small hole in the cowl which the rod is attached to. The remainder you can figure out.

AntiqueMechanic not sure we are talking about the same spring, The spring I have is wraped around the shaft of the gas pedal it self and is attatched to the bottom of the floor board just under the pedal.
I understand the return spring you mentioned that connects from the fire wall to the pivot on the starter.
Do you know if they used two springs on this assembly???
(One from starter to fire wall and one for the pedal?).

I am not aware of any other spring than the one I mentioned above.

When I first bought min e it had a spring wrapped around the throttle linkage. It was old and weak so I replaced it with one that I hooked to the linkage and the firewall.

My throttle linkage also has the spring wraped around, and seem's to be a weaker spring, compared to the throttle spring that mount's to the fire wall.
I'm thinking that the spring that wrap the gas pedal shaft is in place as a fail safe incase the throttle linkage wraped spring ever broke.
I would hate to be on the road and have the gas pedal drop to the floor and get stuck in wide open throttle.
I will be replaceing both with a stronger springs.

Don't put too heavy a spring in there. Some boober put a real heavy spring on mine and it created all sorts of drivability problems. Lucky for me the original light spring was still around the linkage, just disconnected. Upon reattaching life got better. A stiff spring makes it very hard to control the throttle. It also seemed to hold the throttle too tight when closed, making idle very rough.

Sorry, I can't take pics as that side of the car is up against a wall for the winter and the car is up on stands and not movable.

Hey Shawng I fully agree that strong spring's on any assembly would cause throttle problem's and premature wearout, also would put a lot of strain on carburator pivot shaft points, which could cause the carburator to wear out in a short period of time, which could be a costly fix.
A medium spring should be more than ample.
Keep all pivot pionts oiled helps ten fold, A graphite based oil lubericant work's great for this application.
I see lot's of pic's of motors, but also notice most pivot point's are dry, That's metal on metal= Bad news.
keeping it oiled does not hurt.

One thing that accelerates the wear on throttle, choke, spark linkage, starter linkage on these pre war cars with metal to metal links is too much engine cleaning and shining and washing all the oil away parking.
