Anyone know how the switch would bolt up to the transmission linkage?

It does not have a switch. You would have to supply a switch maybe a mon- on toggle Switch under the dash?

The switch was a clamp-on type that mounted under the lip of the dash. The 1942 was the first to have a linkage type automatic switch.
At one time these B.U. light kits were being reproduced. This may be one of them.

Whata think about this idea. Buy two of them and go for turning signals !! I haven't seen any turning signals that are not the JC Whitney types. These might be pretty cool looking.

This is a reproduction. You can buy one cheaper than the one on ebay from either Chevs of the 40s or The Filling Station.

Boy Tiny, lookin' at that paint job really is a contrast to what that car looked like a couple of years ago when you first dug it out. One nice job you're doin' there, congrats.

I'm probably wrong but I thought the paddle switches came into use in the 40s sometime. Prior to that rotary switches were used. Wrong?? Right?? If I'm wrong someone guide this wayward soul.

The swirch picture would be for a 1940 or 1941....not sure about the color but both had a tan switch. The 1942 was the orange-brown and the post war were dark brown
That type of switch was new for 1940 and they were also sold as after-market.

You've got quite a collection of switches. BTW..Did you paint your car yourself? It looks professional, really nice.

Looking at 1938 factory photograph (A23348)they show a pull out type switch with a Black knob that mounts using a clamp to mount it under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel.

Gene sent me a pic from the accessory catalog. I have an aircraft switch that's similar but without the under dash clamp. Me thinks I might have to do some fabricating.

There is a good photo of the back-up lamp and the switch on page 224 of the book, A Pictorial History of Chevrolet 1929 - 1939, by John D. Robertson.
