Hi all,
I'm getting ready to paint a 41 fleetline 2 tone blue body and silver top and have a question. I know the paint break will be along the belt line on the body, but what about in the door jambs? The logical place, at least to me, would be at the first inside edge of the jamb. I am striving for a correct restoration so would like to know definitively. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Any picture would be welcome also!

I was searching for the answer last night. I would be 95% sure the entire door jamb would be the bottom color right up to under the rain gutter - where it joins the body structure.
Same for the top of the door. Just the area you can see from the outside was the top color. I have one picture showing it that way but the car looks like it could be a pre-production model.
The 1942-1948 would have been painted in the same manner. I know for sure the 1949 and up were this way.

Another question, I was looking thru the posts and ran across one that stated that the underside of the hood was painted semi-gloss black, and the trunk floor and sides were black also. I'm guessing that this was the case regardless of body color??

The under side of the hood was semi - black.
The under side of the trunk lid, the floor area with in a foot of the opening was body color and possibly the entire floor. The exposed areas of the trunk were body color and again it extended a ways into the truck. The paint in these areas will be dull as it was not rubbed out and got just a quick coat.
The majority of the trunk area was covered by the cardboard lining. I have a picture of an original trunk. You could PM me your email address and then could send picture.

I examined an original 1940 Sedan with 2,800 original miles on it. I seem to recall that the entire floor area was unpainted. Maybe there was a little overspray from the rocker panels. This 1940 had all of the original paint still on it. It was owned by a VCCA gentleman in Virginia. I spent hours and hours documenting the details on the car.
This 1940 Chevy sedan was the subject of a G&D article that I wrote years ago. It was owned by C.O. Baugher.

My 51 with 2-tone original paint is being painted as we speak. The guy painting it asked how I wanted it done. It seems the body color was devided at the stainless molding & the door jam was painted light green from there down, and dark green from there up. The door was devided at the molding, but the whole inside against the door jam was painted light green from top to bottom. Strangest thing I've seem lately. It seems as if they would have painted them the same, one way or the other. I opted to have them both painted two tone, which is correct?
