Can someone tell me the intake and exhaust valve sizes in the 1954 head number 3835913? It's not in the '54 Manual Supplement and I can't find it online.
Thanks.

The intake valves are 1 13/16" and the exhaust are 1 1/2".
The intakes are the same for 1953-1962 235 engines.
Note that the 1950-52 235 had a larger 1 15/16 intake.

The same exhaust valve was used in the small block 8 cylinder engines also up into the '80's. The quality of the valve was improved through the years (the 1954 PG engine even had a better valve than a 1954 stick engne).
I use the later 8 Cyl. valves for replacement in the 235 as they are much better quality than the originals.

If your rebuilder asked this question I would very much doubt his experiance in rebuilding these engines.

Thank you Gene,
Purely for my own information. I'm not where the engine is right now and was just curious about the sizes. The 3835913 head is the one that came with the engine and has probably already been installed back to the block after rebuilding.
Funny, though, that the 50-52 intakes were larger than the '53 or '54.
Thanks again,

Thats good news....I thought the guy knew what he was doing.
Thats why I added the 1950-52 valve size. Chevrolet's explaination was "so there is less shrouding of the valve by the cylinder wasll. The breathing efficiency of the engine is improved since the combustion mixture flows more freely into the cylinder."

The 1954 PG engine is the first to have a higher valve lift camshaft to increase power at higher engine speeds. This increased the breathing even more.

Thanks again Gene,
I'm starting to get a little antsy now that the build and swap is getting towards the end. Hopefully another month or so....
