Hi all, just purchased a '62 2dr. hardtop Chevy II. Was wondering, was there ever a SS Nova option in '62, or was that a later option for the '63 and after Chevy II's?
Thanks as always for your input.

No SS as Gene pointed out but there was an "over the counter" option in late 62 for a V-8 conversion. I have copies of the article if you want to e-mail me with your VCCA number and other info and I will send it out to you. There was a dealer in CA that was real big on making the swap, the article is from a Hot Rod magazine listing all of the Chevrolet Part numbers, as I recall it even shows the entire kit on a skid. Note when the V8 is installed a lot of special parts are required like the oil pump and oil pan. I wonder if these items are available today?

In 62 there was not an SS model, but they did offer a bucket seat option. If you find a 62 dealer album it will show this. As a matter of fact my brother in-law has a 62 Nova HT that is white with the optional 6cyc. (4 cyc standard) & powerglide. It has the optional bucket seats in red. This car has 17,000 actual miles. I have been trying to buy it for almost 40 years now.

Looking at the 1962 Finger Tip Facts the bench seat interiors had cloth seats and with the bucket seat option the seats were all vinyl. The had the same trim as the Corvair seats. All Nova models had 6 Cyl. engines. At the begining of the year the Nova was available in a 2 door hardtop and coupe only. A post 2 and 4 door came along mid-year.

My brother in-laws sport coupe with the bucket seat option does have the red vinyl. I had a new corvair monza in 62 with the vinyl buckets and if I remember right the seats in both cars looked familar. My good buddy had a 62 Nova brand new, it was the cheapest he could buy. It was a 2dr sedan with a 4cyc stick shift & no radio. It must have had a heater though as we lived in MI.
