In Tennessee if you can find an orginal license plate from any year, they will run it in the state computer and if no one has the plate any longer you can have it transfered to your car for $25. I saw a really nice Tn Plate for $65. Isn't that a little high? Maybe I'm just getting old, but prices seem high on almost anything you look at for old cars. I guess if you play you pay.

I don't know if Tennessee had front and rear plates, but if they did, and the $65 is for both, and they are in excellent condition, that sounds about right to me. Otherwise, it might be a bit high. But don't take my word for it, I haven't shopped for plates that old.

YES and NO
In 1938 they required two plates, but now only one. The $65 was per plate. If someone buys one and it goes though the state and is issued to that person, the other plate would be for looks only.

Check antique stores around your area. I paid $10 for my YOM plate. Swap meets around here sell plates for $5 to $25 depending on condition. I've seen a lot of YOM plates, never been mounted, sell for $20.

Year Of Manufacture. I found several nice sets of Illinois truck plates for my 1950 on ebay and the sets were around $20. They didn't even need any restoration. $130 sounds way to high for a man of my means. I suppose it depends on how hungry you are and what's in your pay envelope. To a Jay Leno that's like buying a stick of gum. To me it’s a couple of weeks allowance. DG

I paid $35.00 for a never used 1950 Mi plate still in the envelope from Secretary of State.
