Guys:
I am looking to buy a 1960 Bel Air that this owner has 4 sale. It is listed as a Bel Air. I want to verify through the VIN # that it is correct. Can some help validate. Here is what I came up with:
01311 N 200830 VIN#
0 = 1960
13 = Impala SS (6-cyl)
11 = 2dr Sedan
(N) Norwood, Ohio -Manufactured
So I am showing an Impala? The engine has been replaced with a 350 Chevy-appears to be a 2 bolt Smog engine. Also anything else I should look out for or better understand before the purchase besides the usual body panels and floor pans? Thanks
Rob

Try this site, but it didn't work for me. Is something missing in the VIN? Also, no SS in 1960. http://www.1963chevrolet.com/tools.htm

Thanks. It did not work for me. I verified the numbers that was on the ad listing. Perhaps they mis-printed it. Although, It appears to have all the right characters.

Looks to me that your identification is right on the money based on the website http://www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com/chevrolet_1958-1969.html However, I can't find the model number 1311 in any of my Chevrolet literature. I find model number 1211 as a Biscayne 2 door, 1411 as a Fleetmaster 2 door and 1611 as a Bel-Air 2 door but don't find an Impala 2 door listed in the 1960 parts book. I do find a model 1311 as a 1961 Biscayne 2 door. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

In 1960 a 1300 is a Biscayne Fleetmaster series. This was an extra stripped down Biscayne sold for fleet use. They were available in a 4 door -1319 and a 2 door - 1311. The 1300 was a 6 Cyl and the 1400 an 8 Cyl.
The regular Biscayne was a 1100 and a 1200 series.
The BelAir was a 1500 for the 6 and 1600 for the 8 Cyl.
Impala was 1700 and 1800.
The Biscayne Fleetmaster was available in 1960 and 1961 only. The 6 Cylinder engine even had only solid valve lifters.
