Hi everyone.

As you may have read under my 31 engine problems post I need a way to make the engine run hotter. I have a machinist who is willing to make me a thermostat base just like the original. I was wondering if anyone would like one since it would be chipper to make 2 then one. The price will be $35 each.

Please let me know if you would like one, he is ready to start right away.

Also this is not the heater style thermostat housing which was installed when a heater was installed.

Sorry, trying to do to many things at once. Yes it would be cheaper then Chipper, because Chipper is priceless.

So, would this be just like the heater one only without the tapped hole for the hose fitting? If so, I would be interested.

You bet I'm cheap. I just put a modern thermostat between the head and outlet, add a new thick gasket (not just the thin brown tissue paper thin one) and bolt them back together. Has worked for me several times without need for any special adapters.

As Brucie mentioned this is not the heater thermostat housing. It is actually a thick metal spacer for the thermostat that goes between the cylinder head and the "goose neck". The heater thermostat housing is a big, two piece, cast iron housing that takes the place of the "goose neck" all together. This heater thermostat housing is illustrated in the 1931 Chevrolet Service News.

Yes, the thick metal spacer type is what I have on my '33, but has the hole for the threaded fitting that the hose attaches to and that is what I thought he meant. The machinist trying to make the other type would have his hands full trying to machine that monstrosity.
