Greetings all,

After major disassembly for mechanical repaires and repainting I'm in the process for replacing parts and seemed to have misplaced (lost) the bolt that holds the battery grounding cable to the transmission. I need to know the thread diameter for a replacement--

Your help is appeciated!

The cable goes behind one of the four bolts that hold the U joint ball bollar to the transmission. Its the bolt in 2:00 o'clock position when viewed from the rear.

Thrasher, When I replaced my battery cables last year, the end of the grounding cable, from the battery, went to a 3/8" hole at the 2-o-clock position on the, right side about mid way, on the transmission. I think I used either a 1/2" or a 3/4" length 3/8" bolt on that. Make sure to, sand or scrape, this area clean of paint or rust first so you have a good ground. I also ran another ground strap from, one of the starter mount bolts, to the frame. There agin, make sure to clean all contact points,of paint and rust. Hope this helps.

The original 3 speed in my 37 1/2 ton had a special place on the trans for the ground cable to bolt on so the cars must be different and it was for a 5/16 or 3/8 bolt.

Those gremlins hide things right in front of you eyes but, disguise it so you can't see it clearly. Just when you are about to give up break or kill something they show you where it is hidden. They are mischievous but not intentionally disastrous.

What size grounding cable or grounding strap do you have? I currently have a 4 gage strap grounded to the frame next to the battery cradle (about 1' long), but I'm having a hard time finding a 1/0 or 2/0 grounding strap...
