Does my 1938 1 1/2 Chevy truck have a heater? I don't see anything about a heater in the shop manual. I'm kinda new at this. Am I going to freeze on the Colorado Prairie this winter?

Things such as heaters, clocks, spotlights and etc. were accessories added on by the dealer at extra cost when requested by the customer. Passenger cars and trucks did not come with heaters as standard equipment.

Available accessories for your year of vehicle were listed in the accessory catalog, not in the shop manual.

Accessories that were added later are not covered in the shop manual.
....www.fillingstation.com....sells a reprint of the 1938 car and truck accessory brochure for $10.00.

Well, I guess that is an accessory I want. Maybe the truck already has it. I'll have to check when I get out to the farm in November. Thanks. Gil

I'm thankful that brakes, steering wheel and windows weren't accessories! Gil

The 1938 Chevrolet heater (there were two) was round and had two verticle doors.

I dont have a heater in my 37 yet and you will get some heat from the motor through the firewall if its not too cold outside, one bad thing about the 37/38 trucks is no defroster ducts in the dash. I have a original type heater for it but the original owner mangled the firewall putting a heater in and I just dont want to cut any holes in it since I got it smoothed back out.

Problem is when it gets cooler out the heat no longer comes through the firewall, just cold air.

Ignore that. I pulled it out for a minor leak that developed and it turned out to have a "Chrysler Corporation Model-17" sticker on top.
