As this is a big Safety Concern to me, especially at night, during the day, they just wave back... What unit is being used ? as the 1940 is nearly impossible to get, want to get something that looks descent and is functional.

Thanks for any enlightenment on this....

Before I found an original 1940, my idea was to use the oldest Chevrolet Guide turn signal unit that I could find. 1949-1950 Guide turn signal units are available.

The GM ones that were made for 49-50 era were not bad looking at all. They had a cancelation wheel that, if you can get it to "mesh" with the steering wheel hub just right, would snap the signal back to neutral after the turn. That way we older drivers wouldn't travel for ten miles down the road with the blinker a-going whilst we are trying to get a decent station on our AM radio and a-wondering why everybody who has passed us are flicking their turn signals right and left as if trying to get out attention.

We tend to ignore the blinker in the manual ones. We're too busy enjoying that 216 mated with its 4:11 effortlessly hum along while traversing hills and dales along our great roads. "Nothing can be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning" especially when driving a 41 Chevrolet. Best, Charlie
