computerHello! The High tension wire connector which snaps onto the spark plug:Is it supposed to be a little "loose"?? Shouldnt it snap on and be very tight? Is this just the way it was designed at Chevrolet?

The correct connectors for the spark plugs are brass and there is a Chevrolet Bow Tie stamped on the top of each connector. When in place on the end of the spark plugs, the connectors should be fairly snug but they will still tend to be just a little loose.

The connectors should not be loose enough to fall off. They should snap into place and rotate on the spark plug, but still be snug. If they have a little movement that should be okay....but you don't want them loose.

If they seem too loose, take a pair of gas pliers and very gently close them down a bit. As long as they "snap" on when you push them onto the plugs, they'll still make a good connection. The point is that you don't want them to vibrate off as you're going down the road.

Hope that helps.

All the Best,

Chip

Chip,
I am curious "What are gas pliers?" I have led a sheltered life and to my memory never was introduced to a pair of "gas pliers".

So Skip, do you use gas pliers to bend the gas? Or maybe to hold onto it? crazy :vcca:

Hey!!! I can bark with or without gas! With gas my bark is at a higher pitch however.

When you use gas pliers you don't hold on to the gas or bend the gas.....you turn the gas off! I thought everyone knew that. bigl bigl

All right, Chipper, you started this:

From Answers.com:

(′gas ′plī·ərz)
(design engineering) Pliers for gripping round objects such as pipes, tubes, and circular rods.

nanana

However, in my case, it's ANY kind of pliers. If I squeeze them really, really hard, you get gas. (You asked).

ref

To be fair, it's really just an old-fashioned name for slip-joint pliers.

tool

Now what the scrap yard pooch is talking about, who knows?????

All the Best, Chip.

The connector is loose where it moves in and out though it still needs to be tugged at to come off.I wander if the aluminum spark plug end is incorrect. I solved it by removing the threaded aluminum end on spark plug and cutting off some length.NOW it wont move.I guess I didnt think crimping it more would help. Thanks guys for your input! Chip,
Thanks for the explanation. Kinda, sorta guessed that was what gas pliers meant but not sure.

You can't always tell what the dogface is barking about. Do know in a previous life he was a gas meter reader. Maybe he whiffed to much of the stuff.

Oh! thankuyou are talking about Channel Locks or the smaller ones that are water pump pliers! Heck :vcca: why didn't you say WATER PUMP PLIERS in the first place...my word..Gas Pliers, I never heard of Gas pliers!... I guess that when you really put the maximum grip into the effort that you hear a squeek from behind and those pliers let the gas out ref greenman flush?

Exactly Mr. Mack!!! That's how they got their name. flush

Now about this ball peen hammer, I don't know, but I do know that a crescent wrench will round off your nuts and that's not a good thing.

Have we wandered off the topic far enough here?

I was reading an old 1937" Western Auto Parts" catalog and they sold "Gas Pliers"! These of course were used for the water pump.

The number four cylinder should have spark just the same as the other five cylinders. Check your spark plug wire for continuity.

I was going to say "Pull the #4 sparkplug wire out of the distributor and stick your finger in the hole."... while the car is running to see if spark is getting to #4 from the coil, but that would be cruel.......... hood :vcca:
