I just installed a rebuilt engine "235" into my 1953 five window Chevy truck. (this is a rebuilt engine,everything internal is new) We couldn't get it started. Pulled the cap off and cranked the engine over. No spark at the points. The points are opening and closing and the gap appears to be correct. Tried the old coil from the engine we took out and still no spark. Does anyone have any ideas that we could try? The wiring condition is very poor in this vehicle and I would like to get wiring diagrams(starting system at this time)for the truck. Does anyone have this information that I could download and print out. Note: I have found some charts on line but they are too small to read and follow the schematics.

Find the shop manual online at:http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/ and look up the one for your truck.

Connect a wire directly from the positive battery post to the + post on the coil with a clip on the end (so it can be disconnected easily). If the - post on the distributor is connected to the points you should have a spark and the ignition active. Once you have the engine running you can deal with the wiring.
