Today I picked up a rebuilt 235 engine to put in my 1953 Chevrolet five window 3600 3/4 ton flatbed truck. I pulled the fan off the water pump on my old engine and tried to bolt it onto the new engine. The blades hit the bottom crank damper pulley assembly. Does anyone know if different pitch fan blades are available and if so will they still clear the radiator? The original motor/fan blade appeared to be very close to the radiator.

The 1939-1953 trucks all used the same fan blade. It was 18" in diameter. The common car fan from those yesrs was 15 3/4 " and had narrower blades. (made much less fan noise). Your 1953 3/4 ton truck would have had a 216 engine. The crank dapener pulley was 6 1/8" in diameter for this engine. The 235 engine from those years had a 7 1/4" diameter balancer. What balancer are you using? The fan will be quite close to the radiator, usually just enough room to get your finger tips between the fan abd rad. core.....and my finger tips a "slim".

Do you have a 55 to 62 235 as the waterpump sits lower in the block then the 54 on back.

I found the following numbers on the replacement engine: Can anyone help me determine the year? Head is marked GM 30 3836848
Block has the following numbers: GM 29 3769716 F162 12 CON4 F06I9J(flat stamped marking)

Its a 235 engine from a 1962 1/2 through 1 ton truck according to my sorces. The 1959-62 235 engine would be the same.
