In the process of restoring the paint including the dash and steering column paint, I'd like to remove the steering wheel from my 54 210 but finding it just won't budge. With the center cap and horn ring removed, I've mounted a hub puller into the two threaded holes GM provided and applied penetrating oil, but to the point I've bent one of the two bolts under signifcant tension, it's just not coming off.

Any ideas - torch heat, etc?

It is often necessary to tap the center bolt on the puller a few times to dislodge the wheel from the splines. Sometimes it is necessary to tap then tighten then tap again. Just snug the puller and tap. Some wheels are on tight enough to bend or break the puller, bolts or wheel. The snug/tap method is the safe way to remove the wheel.

If you can enlist another set of hands have them pull up sharply on the wheel while making a solid blow to the puller.
