Pull the sring with a come-along and place washers beteen the spings untill you gain the right distance..remove the come- along, install the springs, lower the hood and the washers will fall out

Here's the way I did it:
1:Get a length of steel cable, and the some bolt on cable fasteners. (two for each of two cable loops, Just to be safe)
2:Loop and fasten one end to the front wheel axle of your floor jack.
3:Place the floor jack under front frame cross member near the wide end of the "A" arm. (You'll find the right location after a couple of tries.)
4: Hook the spring on the hood.
5: Run the cable up through the engine compartment.
6: Make a loop around the end of the spring and fasten it back upon itself.
7: Jack up the car until the end of the spring end is aligned with with the catch on the body and press it into place.
8: Lower the jack and remove the cable.

It was simple and safe.

Thanks

Those are two good methods.......also try a search (if the search thing works) for hood springs in this forum.....

This has been discussed several times before.

Be careful, however you do it......those springs can be unguided missiles in the garage if you are careless!!!!

I have used a 17" flat bladed screw driver. Took 10 minutes both sides. Put one end on the hood side, the other around the screw driver with the screw driver end in the fender hole, and snap into place. Done it at least 5 different times.

Here's a tool and video demos for '49-54 hood spring. Maybe something you can use.

Glad to be of help. I've certainly gotten enough enjoyment and knowledge here so it's nice to be able to contribute.
