What is the difference in the wiper arms for hardtops and the other closed cars in 1954? The Filling station lists arms for all, but Hardtops and convertible's. I lost one last week in a rain storm, fortunatly it was on the passenger side.

Cleon,
The hardtop and convertible used a windshield that was shorter than the sedan models. It required a shorter arm. I don't have the dimensions but seem to remember it was about 1/2" shorter. Will try to find the exact dimensions.

I have searched for the wiper arm length and can not find figures.
The parts book shows only an adjustable arm. There even the left and right are combined. I remember we had a bending tool so the arm could be bent so the blade would lay flat at the bottom of the windshield when the wipers were off.

Yes forgot that there were right and left wiper arms. Maybe he can get Clay to measure his '53 Sedan arms and then his '54 hardtop arm and then we all will know the difference.

I found my stash of new wiper arms. They are not in boxes so I do not know what they are for,. They are the universal type that Chevrolet sold so the arm telescopes for length. What does the end of the arm where the blade attaches look like?

First that is not a correct Chevrolet version of a 1954 wiper arm. The ones Chevrolet used from 1940 and up did not have the retaining screw. When the arm was sliped onto the shaft the blade end was pulled away from the windshiel, it was pushed in place and then the blade set against the glass. This locked the arm in place. The end that connects to the blade is also different. I will recheck my stash tomorrow and see if I can find anyting that will work.

I did not think that it was the arm that came on the car. Let me know if you come up with something that will work

I have an arm that should work. It is an Anco brand Universal. The length is adjustable - just as your present left adm is. Note the little tear drop shapped lever sticking out midway in the arm. Your little lever is noe in the unlocked position so the length can be changed. When the lever is set stright with the arm is locks the arm length.
I have 2 arms that adjust from about 6" to 9" and one arm that adjusts about 9" to 12"....and that one should work for you. If you like I will send it down your way for trial.
