Hi kat902, Welcome to the best site ever for the assistance in building your stock Chevrolet vehicle. Just post your questions on the same site you listed this. Let's look at some hard data. Check the engine for any numbers and casting marks. Information is on both the head and block. You also can check for numbers/information on the transmission. Is it a 3-speed or 4 speed? Arm yourself with data, and a picture if possible and come on back here.

If you have a truck with a Fisher Body data plate showing Job No. 8180 it is not Chevrolet factory original. Though it could have been factory produced by a commercial body company, it is not likely. Most body companies used either commercial or passenger chassis as the platform for their trucks or special bodied vehicles.

thanks for the info so far, its a 3 speed forward and 1 reverse, i found a picture of one like it minus the box in the reno museum, i just have to keep it out of the hands of people who said a 350 would be great in in. i bought it from a guy who did f**d restoration who bought his wife this chevy. she had some info, not orginial, that said chevy made a truck from both a coupe and roadster body. they just supplied everything but the box. i got it when he died. it has 4 wheel brakes, i just got the vacuum pump back today after being rebuilt. i will soon put the truck in storage for the winter, if i can get to it i will post more info and pictures. i wondering if it might be a canadian version. i just want to replace the parts with the correct year. i was told except for the color and the color it was mostly orginial. but orginial could mean almost anything. i will ask my mechanic to get the numbers for me. thanks

Several body companies supplied a box to be inserted in the trunk area of Chevrolet Coupe and Roadsters. It was necessary to take the trunk lid off to install the box. There were even boxes with lids. Those vehicles present a problem in VCCA judging as they can be interpreted as having non-original body parts. But, there is official Chevrolet literature showing those body modifications so if it is available to VCCA judges no originality points should be deducted.

If you email the pictures or let us know where they are posted in a public accessible website maybe the id and authenticity can be determined.

kat, You don't need any numbers to identify a '28 engine. It's the only 4 cylinder Chevy with two exhaust ports in the head. It is also the only one with covers over the push rods, all others have exposed push rods. '28 engines have a metal tube (crankcase vent, I think) which comes from the front of the engine and enters the carburetor on the engine side near the choke. The '28 carb is the only one with a hole for the tube.

If you are not a VCCA member you will not be able to post pictures on this site. You can email the pictures to a member and ask if they will post them or if they can identify the body. Many have their email addresses listed in their profiles. Try clicking on the blue name in the upper left of any post to bring up the profile.
