I've got a 1992 Thomas mid sized bus with a Chevy 454 big block that I used to use as a band bus. It seems to need a new carburetor and with gas prices what they are I'm wondering if it's worth keeping around?

I know the tranny, and starter and body are all in great shape but I need to decide if I should sell it and save up for a diesel to run on french fry oil.

By the way I'm new to the forum and it looks like an awesome site :)
I'm not a mechanic but I love working on cars and I find it really easy.

By what I have seen of diesels running on french fry oil it is not worth it, stay with the 454 or a diesel running proper fuel. The cooking oil doesnt lubricate the system properly and repairs can out weigh the savings.

How much touring are you planning on doing? If you are not stacking up too many miles, it may be more cost effective to just keep the old gasser. If you are needing to travel long distances, or you're really into the alternative fuel gig, then, by all means, go diesel. By the way, doesn't that '92 have TBI fuel injection?
