On an original 1940 rear view mirrow, what color paint is the back of the mirror? I'm thinking it must be the body color, but just want to be sure.

Hay guys, my website on the restoration of my 1940 Chevrolet, it just when live last week! Check it out: www.1940chevrolet.info

Thanks,

Ger13

Yup! Nice site. Good writing and interesting pix to go along with the whole story. Congrats!!

Sorry I can't help with the original question about the color for the back of the mirror. It doesn't seem like it's body color. But not sure what color.

You'd better wait til an expert sees your question....

The back of the inside rear view mirror has the same wood grain as the garnish moldings. I probably should have said ALMOST the same as it was done by a different process.

Two questions
Is it Port Wine maroon (not metallic and used on early 1940's) or metallic Ruby Maroon (late cars)

Why do you call it a Town Sedan? The Town Sedan was the 2 door and the 4 door (which it appears to be) was a Sport Sedan.

Great site! I thought my 38 was rough when I brought her home. laugh I also took a lot of pictures of the restoration of my 38 and there's also an interesting story behind it. I've considered creating a web site for my 38. Who do you use for hosting? I notice you don't have advertising so you must pay a fee. If you don't mind me asking, what is your monthly hosting fee? Good job my friend. ok

One of the few times I have seen the Ruby Maroon nice and dark like it originally was. Today most end up with a modern lighter maroon. Going back a few years I thought you chose Ruby.

Do you have the standard 1940 rear view mirror or the Guide day/night accessory mirror? The backs of these 2 mirrors are different.

It is not a day/night mirror and it looks like it may have been a wood-grain finish.

My websirte is hosted by GoDaddy.com and it is very reasonable. I paid about $365 for 24 months and after that I would renew for about $200 a year.

The have a software system that makes is possible to build your own site if you have average computer skill. My site is ten pages so have have room to expand. Their site is www.godaddy.com they have tech support 24/7 which I used a bunch!

Ger 13:

We would love to see your car in person. There is a gathering of old-car guys in Fountain Hills each Sunday from 12 - 3PM. It is not a formal car show but simply a group of guys who like to bring their cars together, admire, and chat. You could combine a visit with a ride to Saguaro Lake one Sunday.

It is held near the A&W in the Target parking lot. That is on Shea Blvd about a mile west of Hwy 87 (Beeline) in Fountain Hills. Not only is there no charge to show your car, people who show their cars get a free A&W root beer.

Hope to see you and your car there some Sunday.

David, that sounds great. I think I will wait a couple of weeks. I was out a Falcon Field with the CAF and their WWII bombers! Great show but,the drive home at 102, a little hot for a road trip. I will plan on it within the next month. I will let you know.

Thanks,

Gerry

I know what you mean. I don't drive anything that isn't air conditioned when it gets over 90. But it is supposed to be back in the 80's from now on. We shall see.

It is an informal gathering so come when you can. We try to drop by most weekends but don't always make it. But if I know you are coming, I'll be there. You can e-mail us at dmlabl@yahoo.com.

Look forward to seeing your great car.

By the way, if you take a ride on the B-25 or B-17 you will fly across the reservation than over a fairway on the Sunridge Canyon golf course, and then right over our house. We live behind the green of a 425 yard fairway, and you can see the bombers and fighters coming all the way from Mesa. Since we are about 550 feet higher than Mesa, they usually are not very high when they fly over. My dad flew B-17's in WWII and I think of him every time they fly over. Great show!!!
