Should the windshield transmissions be greased/oiled(small chain & gears) before installation? If so, what is recommended? Thanks

The new ones I had years back showed no sign of being lubricated. The 1942 shop manual body lubrication chart says windshield wiper shaft, light oil. Picture shows it from the outside. I have no idea as to how it can be done as the shaft is covered up by the knob the blade mounts on....if you can get at it do oil the shaft although I have never seen it done.

If I recall correctly there is a small "weep" hole on the bottom of the wiper case that with the engine running engine vac. will suck oil into the case off of the tip of your finger or out of an oil can.
