I wanted to know if a 1951 4door deluxe Power Glide trans will fit in a 1950 2door Deluxe. I was thinking about changing from a manual in the 1950 to a 1951 power glide transmission. what all is involved in this change over if it can be done? I already have the 1950 and down the street from me is a 1951 4door with a power glide trans for sale. before I purchace it I wanted to make sure that it would work. Any input would help out. thanks, Ken

I believe you would find that it is not a practicle move.
First the PG would need the extra power of the 235 engine. So the PG engine would need to be used. Then you still have the 4.11 rear end. The advantage of the PG is the 3.54 rear end. That means you would be changing the complete drive train. Then there is the problem with the frame crossmember. It farther to the rear with PG. The PG puts more weight on the front wheels so stronger coil springs would be necessary to raise the sagging front end. The PG exhaust system is larger and a transmission oil coler would be necessary.
Would be better just to buy a car with PG.

Are the boys off of cloud 9 by now?

Thanks Gene,
I guess that answers my question. I will leave well enough alone. It was just a thought. The Guy only wants $500.00 for the car. Thats why I wanted some advice before I purchased it. Ill let someone else buy it. And yes the boys are still on cloud 9. We had so much fun and it was a great experence for the two Boys. I just hope that they keep there interest up in the old cars. I also think that meeting all of you Keeps them on cloud 9. They are ready for for us to go and meet with you guys again. I told them we will see most of you at the Central meet in july 2010. As always thanks for your advice. Ken
