I just aquired a new motor. The numbers on the pad behind the distributor are 0300883f54Y. I think that the F= Flint, the 54 being the year, and Y = powerglide. How close am I? What do the first numbers mean? Behind the starter are the numbers CON3 then B94 I believe B94 would be February 9th 1954, but I'm not sure. What would the CON3 mean?

While the casting number is the best way to ID and engine (it can't be restamped) the Y would indicate it is a '54 PG engine

It sounds logical that the casting numbers would be the best way. The casting numbers also indicate that it is a 54, Correct? It also has a 53 head and will there fore look at first glance anyhow like it's the original 51 motor. Thanks again
