I'm ready to install the top on my 4 door sedan. I have the kit from Hampton coach. I've never installed one before. I'm a little nervous about intalling it. I don't want it to leak and get water stains on the new headliner. How do I keep the trim straightthe material wrinkle free? Can anyone offer a few dos and don'ts of installation. The instuctions say it can be installed with or without sealant.

thanks

There is a brief explanation in the Fisher Body Service Manual, 1926-1931. Its just about a page long but may help you. You can get these from the Filling Station, Faxon, or on eBay.

Try this site. It is a Ford but helped me do mine.
I used a top from a outlet in Conn. Not exactly like the original. I did it in the warm weather and a little sunny out to make the top soft and flexible. Tacked one end in the middle then stretched to the other end and tacked in the middle. Then the sides same way. Then just kept working all atound.
Then cut it on the metal recess. I useed a tack at each end of each slotted hole. I left the center of the slots for the trim. I used clear silicon for a sealant uner the trim and lapping the vynl edge. I hope never to get caught in yhe rain.

I don't know what hampton coach supplies for going under the top. The kit I used only had 1/8" foam and I ended up having to beef that up from inside as after a while I could see the outline of the slats.
In your case you want to be sure about this as you already have the headliner in. Good luck, Bob.

I did the roof on my 31 sedan in 1968 with 1/2 inch foam under the vinyl topper and it still looks like new.It is real smooth with no ribs showing, some people like the boney cow look but I think mine looks better, and it has held up perfect

Regarding the comment from above - "I used clear silicon for a sealant uner the trim and lapping the vynl edge."
Be careful using silicone. It is my understanding that silicone is corrosive and will eat paint. 3M makes a clear sealer (contains no silicone) that can be used for this purpose.
