From time to time I see a stainless steel 38 grill listed for sale. The grill on my 38 is chrome plated steel. Was the stainless version an option or was it common to a certain model that year?

The original grille for the 1938 car was stamped steel and chrome plated. In the later years Chevrolet made them from stamped stainless steel. The general detail and corners of the stainless grille were not quite as crisp as the steel.
This should not be confused with after-market or modern die-cut grilles

If you're needing a grill I see them on ebay all the time. There are a couple on there now but they are a bit rough.
