Hopefully someone can help with a wiring diagram/help for a supposedly NORS Delco-Remy #1995040 headlight switch I purchased for my 1946 Chev 1/2 ton pickup. The switch when viewed from the screw terminal side has 3 independent screw terminals faintly labeled 1, 2, & 3 on the left side of the switch. A single screw terminal is present (with two other vacant positions available) on the end of the switch which is part of a long buss type of metal going down the length of the switch-there is no marking. The last terminal is on the right side of the switch with one screw present, but has room for another screw-there is no marking. The handle with knob is detachable by pressing on a spring affair on the back side of the switch body. No delco-remy markings, nor numbers exist on the switch other than as mentioned previously. Any suggestions for proper wiring will be much appreciated. Also, can any damage occur if hooked up incorrectly and powered on to check?

The 1995040 is more or less a universal replacement switch for many years so may have an extra terminal.
The battery wire is attached to the plate on the fuse holder that is more or less attached to the top of the switch. It may have three threaded holes, use anyone (use a 30 amp fuse)
The head light wire (goes to dimmer switch) is the top terminal - closest to dash May be marked with an H
The next terminal (down) is for the parking lights
There may be a third terminal-don't see use for that
Next are two terminals that are together at their base. That are for the tail ligtht
There may be two terminals on the small side of the fuse holder, on is for the stop light and one is for the dome light.

No harm can come by hooking up the battery wire and testing to see what terminals are hot and when.
My description may not pertain to your replacement swirch 100 percent.
