My Harrison rad has two small pin hole's inside of the honycomb fins, can this be repaired at home?? or does this need to goto the shop?? The rest of the rad is in very good shape, with no other leaks. If repariable at home what would be the best material to use to fix this?? lead or other. This car won't be used for tour's, just for parades/show's.

I would suggest you seek the advice of a good radiator shop. It may be worth a professional repair.

If the pin holes are deep within the core, then a solder type repair will be next to impossible,if not outrageously expensive. If you only have a couple of small pin holes to deal with, you may just want to fill up those offending cells with either some black neutral silicon,or for a more permanent fix, some black Sikaflex. You'll just have to work the sealant of your coice into the cells from both the front & rear to achieve a complete seal.

If your going to be doing parades. You will need a very good radiator. The constant ideling through a parade will make it overheat quickly, if every thing is not up to snuff.

Hi :Cleon Eck I have installed a 4 blade fan off a Chevy truck to keep thing's cooler + have fan shroud in place. I live in a small town and the parades are only a few blocks, so it barely has a chance to warm up before it gets parked to show. I am going to take the rad into a shop to see what they say.

Jay 28, I had several leaks repaird in my honey comb radiator at a local radiator shop. It took them a couple of weeks to get around to it but it only cost $40. Well worth the cost to have a clean non leaking well cooling radiator. Take it to a pro.

I have "fixed" several old tractor radiator leaks with nothing more than finely ground black pepper. I also fill the radiator with nothing but distilled or rain water and run till hot and drain out to dissolve any lime build up. I keep repeating till the water that comes out runs clear then refill with antifreeze mix. It also cleans out lime from the block. I know the pepper thing is a temporary fix but it can last for several years.

My 28 LP truck has a classic radiator repair that likley dates back some 30 or 40 years (or more). It comprises a steel plate the size of a business card on front and back side that are sandwedgeing two peices of leather against either side of the offending section of honeycomb. The whole orchestration is clamped tight by way of a thin bolt passed through the honeycomb clamping the leather tight. I have done many miles with no overheating problems. While I have a perfectly good replacement radiator sitting on the shelf I consider the repair part of the archaeology of my old truck and I fear if i took the repair off to check the damage the entire truck would fall apart around my feet.
