Thanks for those who helped me with the age of my truck.

I have a Capitol model 1 ton truck.

The truck is really in good shape.
The cab is constructed of wood and all of the tin work is very nice, except for a few dings.

It has not run for 40 years, but the engine is not stuck.
I need some help to start the process of getting her started and running.

All of the ignition wires are present, the mag is in place, the tires are really rotten.
I suppose that I should drain the oil, get a battery, replace any old gas, and so on.

Is there anything that I shouldn't do as I start this process?

Is there a shop manual available?

Thanks

Paul

My 28 tourer hadnt been started for more than 10 years, I pulled the sump off and found the oil had deteriated into a thick sluge blocking the oil pump. I would suggest draining the oil may not be enough, you may have to pull the sump off and clean it out. Same with diff ect.

I would second that about pulling the oil pan off and cleaning it. If it was used with non detergent oil when it was last used there would have been sludge in there when it was parked and more would have formed. My 28 truck was parked sometime around WW2 and although the oil on the dipstick was clean, the pan had 2 inches deep of crud in the bottom where it had settled out.

28 Chevy LO Capitol 1 ton, 28 National 2 dr coach, 71 Chevy Custom Camper 3/4 ton. Also 23 Oldsmobile Economy truck and a 24 Olds sport touring.
