Hello

I am kind of new to this site. I have been registered for some time, but I have been re-energized to work on my truck.

I have some questions to help identify the year of my truck.
It is a 1 ton stake truck with a wood cab.
on the dash in the cab is a ID tag with the following.

Model Capitol
Car Number 3LC 2830

I hope to get a year of manufacture and any information on this truck if possible.

Thanks

Paul

The Capital indicates a 1928
3LC 2830
3 = St Louis as the assembly plant.
LC is probably LO(?) and indicates a 1 ton truck
2830 = assembly number and falls in late January.

Also, an 1928 LO should only have two wheel brakes (rear). The 1928 LP has 4 wheel brakes.

PJS check that ID again. It's probably LO and not LC.

The 3 = St. Louis plant.
The LO = 1 ton truck.
2830 = 1830 vehicle off the St. Louis line.
See if there's a job number tag on the cowl. That would help.
The LO's were built Jan. -June '28.
I hope this helped. Maybe someone else can help you a little more. Good Luck.

Thanks so much.

I have wondered for years on the date of this truck and in the span of 1 hour I got the info that I need.

I hope to post many questions for you experts.

Many thanks and I am excited to get this going.

Paul

The early 1928 truck, the LO series, had two wheel brakes as per a previous post.It also used a 1928 engine and the standard transmission was a 3 speed gearbox. An optional 4 speed gearbox was offered, but it is entirely different to the LP series 4 speed gearbox;different gear tooth count, cluster shaft bearings, and the gearstick was held into the top of the gearbox with a 2 bolt retaining arrangement, not the twist and lock bayonet type that the LP 4 speed used.
Another difference between the LO & LP models,is that the front shackle pin sits in a forged bracket inside the front chassis rails(the same as passenger cars)whereas the LP front shackle pin had a pressed steel shackle pin bracket that was rivetted to the outside face of the chassis as well as the underside of the chassis rails.
