Phillips head screws were first used in 1936.
The Country Club kit was not made or sold or approved by Chevrolet so has no relation to what was used by Chevrolet.

I was not there in 1948 and never heard it mentioned in 1950.

Were they actual Phillips heads, or were they the Cross-head screws? A flat blade screwdriver can be used on these screws as well as a Phillips head screwdriver.
GMC trucks of the late 30's and up used these Crosshead type, while the Chevy trucks of the same era used the clutch head and flatblade style.
