Just to let let everyone know that the site selection committee is starting to look for a site for 2016. This is to be west of the Mississippi River. We have had a few suggestions so far but are always looking for more to evaluate. Please contact anyone on the committee with your thoughts. 2016 Site Committee. John, I seriously evaluated 11 sites in the Rocky Mountain region from Albuquerque to Calgary, Alberta for the 2006 meet mostly east of the Divide but as far west as Park City, UT. I also considered and contacted a few further west, like Reno, Carson City, Tahoe, NV, Tucson and Flagstaff, AZ. Each had its attractions and problems. A major problem is large cities have too much traffic to effectively run driven tours. If you want to have bus tours or no tours then they are good options as they have large hotel complexes and convention centers. A secondary problem is the relative size of the VCCA event (I purposely did not call it a convention but a really large 'family reunion' so they would not be thinking breakout rooms, seminars, displays and most people staying in the hotel/convention center all the time and over populating the bar.) We don't have the impact of the State bowling tournament as an example or a fraternal organization. Then there is the problem of people traveling to the meet. If too far away without other attractions near the route then people will not come. But if there are other things to do on the way to the meet or home it helps with attendance.
As you know no site will be perfect. Weighing the compromises is the difficult task. What I found was that having a city that really wants the VCCA to come is a major plus. With the help of area officials many things can be done. That makes the smaller cities more enticing.
If anyone on your committee wants to consult with me, I am available. Cathy won't let me get directly involved again.

It is a pleasure to be working with you again. I am sure your committee can come up with a first class meet location. There are many VCCA members out in the "West of the Mississippi river" area that could make suggestions on a location. We must remember that July can be really HOT in much of the USA. An example is that the '91 Meet in Nashville, TN was held in record high temperatures. Got through it despite a thunderstorm on judging day.

We attended an AACA Glidden Tour in Branson, MO with the Chateau On The Lake as headquarters hotel. We were driving our '31. The hotel had everything you could want and there were lots of good roads for touring with lots to see and do. Just a suggestion to take a look at.

To those folks who are putting this event together:
You might want to consider Loveland, Colorado. Has a newly opened Embassy Suites at the interstate (I-25) w/ conference rooms, next door is the county fairgrounds (The Ranch), many less expensive motels nearby, a couple of RV campgrounds, loads of shopping, gateway to Rocky Mtn Natnl Park (SH 34) and Estes Park. Not to be forgotten is the world famous sculpture park, Etc. Roughly 60 miles north of Denver (I-70) and 60 miles south Of Cheyenne (I-80). Although the temp in the summer goes 80's and 90's the humidity is low, unlike Nashville. You may want to consider this site.

To continue with the Branson thought there are several camp grounds very near the hotel I mentioned above. They have an indoor parking garage for the cars and they had a lot we could park trailers. It is in a new area for an Anniversary Meet.

Branson and Longmont CO is on the list. We are looking at every state west of the Mississippi regardless if we were there or not everything is equall. Colorado does offer many of the things we are seeking as well as other states. Later, John

Later, John Hello john, FWIW I attended a NIA regional in Branson in 2006.Great location.Alot to do and see in addition to the car related meet activities. My Wife said she'd definitely go back if there were to be another club function held there. As a side note,NIA was held at the Holiday Inn of Branson.Nice place, but not a level piece of asphalt anywhere<vbg>!If Branson is in the running make sure the host hotel has a level parking lot, especially for the trailered vehicles. It was difficult to load/unload due to the hilly terrain. Good luck and take care,Jim Downum 70 Imp Custom NIR Secretary
