Hi there,
This is the grease monkey again. First I want to thank all of you for the past information I received. It sure helped a lot. Now for the new problem.
I have a 51 chevy stile line coupe. When I put in reverse there is a clunk.
It has the power glide trans.TheMotor mounts and trans mounts are good and the u joint seems ok. It sounds like it is in the rear. It is only in reverse. I would not think this is normal
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

This was normal under certain conditions. Mine will do it if the hand throttle or choke knob is out a little and it is idling faster. They did it when they were new.
If there is a problem it would probably be the ring gear and pinion have too much clearance. (the teeth don't fit close enough). But then the rear end could sing a little.

Hi gene,

Thanks for the reply on the rear end clunk. I wasn't sure if they were made with that but what you said made sense. I will try what you said.
Thanks again Grease monkey 123
