How does the throttle wire from the dash mounted cable attach to the link coming up from the peddle? Is the knob intended to move with the accelerator peddle in and out of the dash?
Thanks

I'm not sure I understand the question. The throttle cable connects to the carburetor throttle arm.

Indeed, it does connect. The question is, how is it connected? When I got the car it was not connected, and the cable was missing. I can see that the cable is to be fastened down on the carb bracket, but the wire, how is that to be connected? The linkage from the gas peddle comes up makes a 90 degree turn and is fastened to the throttle with a cotter pin. I don't see any provision on the throttle arm to attach the wire.
Thanks

The rod is fastened to the lever by the throttle cable, not a cotter pin. The cable is clamped into the bracket (verticle) and the inner wire runs down through the opening in the rod. A throttle stop is clamped around the wire just below the lever. This allows the wire to pull up the lever when the throttle is pulled out. Also allows the acellerator pedal to work the lever independently. A throttle stop can be purchased at a small engine repair store or from one of the major Chevrolet parts vendors

You beat me to answering this! :-) I was about to copy your response from the 1940 pickup truck discussion we had about 3 months ago when I took a picture of Dave's carburetor bracket. Here was what you said back then:
First I assume that you have the Y bracket that is held inplace by the carb. air horn screw. The choke cable goes through the horizontal clamp on the bracket. The throttle cable goes through the verticle clamp. The throtle cable inner wire then extends down and slides through the little hole in the upper accelerator rod. this holds the rod to the lever (not a cotter pin).....as the rod & lever moves up and down it just slides on the wire. To allow the wire to pull up the lever when the throttle is puled out a throttle stop is clamped to the wire just below the lever. A throttle stop is a little round "thing" with a set screw that fastens the stop to the wire. A throttle stop usually can be purchased at a lawn mower repair shop. When I get my '39 out for the season I will take a picture of the liknage so it can more easily be described. If you have further questions feel free to ask. _________________________ Chevgene
I figured I wouldn't be able to explain it any better than you did. :-)
