Is there a trick to installing 1932 Headlamp Upper & Lower Tie Bars?

I can't get the fenders spread far enough to fit the tie bars on to the pads and have the bolt lined up into the ends of the tie bars. Nothing was working.

The headlight bar and pad unit should line up with the holes in the fenders and bolt right in place. If not it could be that your fender supports are bent slightly or possibly your fenders might be teaked a little.

I might add that the threads inside of the light bars are a fine machine thread. I don't recall the size.

JYD,

This LP was 72 years old when the restoration was started and the front fenders had some minor dents & dings. All of which likely did exactly what you suggested - changed the ship of the fender or bent the fender brace slightly.

RGwiz,

The threads are NF but I can't tell you the size either.

chevy b,

You were spot on. I removed the carriage bolts holding the fenders to the fender brace, loosen off the carriage bolts holding the brace to the chassis for good measure. Secured the headlamp tie bars loosely to one side of the car and had my brunette car buddy push down on one fender while I worked on lining up the bolts in the other.

The whole thing took all of 20 minutes with your advice.

Thank you all!

yay Now its time for a beer2

Today was a good day to remember projects that you could do inside with the A/C going full blast. Not a good day to dig a ditch, mow the lawn, or restock your supply of fire-wood.
