Getting the lid ready for paint and find that whatever is supposed to hold the lower weather strip to the lid is gone, rusted off. What should I weld back on and where?

Randy, I can't get a good picture of where the lower rubber mounts, while the lid is on the car.
If you haven't got one, pick up a copy of the '37-'38 Fisher Body Assembly manual from one of the literature dealers. It should have a photo or line drawing of how it mounts. I'd look it up for you, but I loaned mine out to a friend.

The assembly manual didn't help. Steele doesn't have a listing for the weather strip. If I can't put something there I wont be able to wash the car. Anyone have a solution? Steele does have weather strip for 35/36 will that work?

The decklid seal is Steele p/n 70-0796-84 and was $82.50 in the 2007 catalog. This is the seal that attaches to the lid top &sides and is made for model 1087 (rumble seat coupe) as well as models 1017, 1067 and 1217. I don't find the flat bottom seal, however.
When I purchased the seals for my '37 Sports Coupe (rumble seat) back in 1995, Steele offered a 3-piece complete set for the rumble seat lid, their part number was 25-0025-85. You might want to contact them with that part number and ask if it's still available. If nothing else, it might show a demand for them and maybe they will start producing them again.
