Hi. Does anyone have ideas as to replacing the spring for the 37 pickup handle. so as to keep the outside handle upright. I bought new springs from Chevs of the 40s but don't know if they are right. They are the serpentine, or round ones.
Thanks....

I am uncertain I understand your question and description. Does the new spring resemble that shown in the Master Parts Catalog as part number 16.375?
By "...outside handle upright."; do you mean the pointed end is not "level" with the other end? If so, my '37 handles both, driver and passenger side do that too. I usually have to just turn the handle slightly to get it level. I do not know if this is just the way it is (was) or if there is another adjustment needed.

Thanks for the respones..
I guess that is the question. are thier replacement springs, servicable for the 37 pickup lock? The springs I bought are round concentric circles, but I do not think thay fit for the truck. Maybe the handles would just sag a bit?

The door lock, item 10.470, is the same for the pickup and the car 37-39. Thus the spring is correct for your application. I took mine apart once but don't remember all the steps. What I do remember is that you don't want to damage the brass colored spring washer that is on top of the sliding lock.

Brian,
I believe you are mistaken about the lock mechanisms being the same for cars and trucks for 1937. 10.470 is the group number for the car lock and there is no mention of truck locks in that group. The truck lock is found in group number 16.330 and the part numbers for the two are quite different in my 1951 Catalog. I have a NOS truck lock and there is no spring visible but it appears that the same spring that returns the bolt also keeps the handle upright.
I think most sagging handles are the result of a little wear in each of a few places. I wish I could tell you what the spring is supposed to look like but it is enclosed and out of sight.

I can't speak for the 37-38 truck lock but the 39-46 truck lock has a spring that keeps the door handle from dropping. It was common for these springs to come loose and could usually be found in the bottom of the door. I have never seen a used lock that still had the spring in tact and most 39-46 trucks has the "droopy" handle.I am not aware if the spring was offered as a seperate part.I finally located a couple of NOS locks to cure the problem on the 46 that I restored.

FYI.... Jim Carters offers "door handle anti-droop springs" They are part number DP146L and DP146R in their catalog. I have bought them for my truck, but haven't gotten around to installing them yet.
