Hi, Can anyone tell me what the difference is in connecting rods for a 1948 chev 216 truck. The motor I am rebuilding has rods with part no- 3835274,which are babbit bearings.I have rebuilt rods with part no- 839558 which are too wide on the bearing width and wont fit. What are the 838389?
thanks Rusted

The 1937-1947 connecting rods were the same although there were a few different forging numbers used. The 1948-1953 rods interchange although again there is more than one forging number. The 1948 and up rods have the thinner babbit which is more durable. Because of this improvement the rod bearing area was made more narrow.

HI, Thanks for the replies. The motor has a block casting of 3835327 with an engine number R320341 and a 48 with a circle around it cast near the block casting. Basically the engine is in sound condition.I have re ringed it and adjusted the bearings but I have one rod that is a bit suspect in the bearing.I purchased a couple of reconditioned rods with the casting 839558 but they are about 1/16 too wide to fit the crank so I am trying to find what will fit and what wont. Thanks Rusted
