Last summer I replaced all 4 wheel cylinders on my '50 4dr with NORS cylinders. They had been sitting on a shelf for many years so I put all new pucks in them and made sure that the inside was clean and free of any rust or corrosion. I got the car out this spring and the brakes worked good. Then I ended up with a right front wheel cylinder leaking so I took it apart, checked things out real close. Everything looked real good, not to much clearance between the piston and the bore of the cylinder. It worked good for a day or so and its back to grabbing real bad. I can see that I have fluid on the backing plate so I know its leaking again. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? I did replace the front wheel cylinders with the original 1 5/16 bore cylinders.

The rubber cups are the critical part to prevent leaks. If those are in good condition and the bores smooth you should not have leaks. Of course the springs and pucks also have a part in the functioning of the brakes. I would replace the cups if you have leaks.

There may be rust granuals in the system that are getting in between the cup and bore. Give it a close examination when you disassemble it.

When you are about to give up, have the wheel cylinders sleeved, also the master cylinder.

I got it all fixed. Ended up going to a different supplier and got some fresh wheel cylinder pucks. I think the ones that I first used had sat on someones shelf way to long. I have driven the car close to 700 trouble free miles since repairing.
