I am wondering if anyone knows how much oil is represented between the full and add marks on the dipstick in a 31? I have developed an oil leak since my last oil change and want to wait a bit before changing oil again. My dipstick shows the oil level to be half way between the full and the add marks.

Thank you all for your constant help.

My suggestion would be to drain the oil. Put 4 quarts in and mark the dip stick. Put another quart in and mark the dip stick. You will then know where four and five quarts are on the dip stick. I drill a small hole in the dip stick to help me see where the oil is at four quarts.

I believe that the difference between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick is one quart.

I never trust the markes on the dip stick of a very old car. Is it the original dip stick? Is it straight? I like to check them to be sure.

Thank you for the good advice. I have assumed that there is a one quart difference between the full and add but next time I change the oil, I will test it at 4 quarts to see for sure. I believe that it is the orginal dipstick. It is straight and quite short. Really unlike anything I have ever seen before.

I felt pretty silly the first time I tried to put the dipstick back in my '31. It was somewhat dark and I couldn't get it to go back it. I kept twisting and twisting until FINALLY I realized I had to push the prong in to get it to go in.
