What type lubricant is recomended for the inside of the vacuum motor? I have read about graphite mixed with alcohol but is this ok for the long haul? Seems to me some sort of grease would be better

I give mine a shot of MMO ever now and then. I just pull the hose off the manifold, stick it in a small capful of MMO and work the wiper arm back and forth by hand, it don't hurt the engine either!

It gets sucked in by the action of the wiper motor....I prefer to use ATF as its kinder to the rubber wiper hose.
When the motor was new grease was used arond the paddle in the motor. This grease gets hard after 50+ years and the ATF can soften it up a little. The same for new motors that have been sitting around for long periods of time.If the " treatment" dosen't work they can be taken apart.cleaned and regreased.

What i did with my wiper motor in my 31 was, take it apart and clean all old grease out and smear vasoline inside of it. It works great. I have heard of others doing the same thing.
These ain't for old guys any more.

HMMMM!!! Gene, maybe that is why I have to replace the wiper hose every 20 years give or take a couple of years! Maybe I should switchn to ATF...Nahhh, I like the smell of MMO burning early in the morning...... Vasoline is the lube that I use when tearing a wiper motor down...Man, don't those things have a pascel of itsy bitsy tenny parts under that little tin hump!

Does this process sometimes get oil into the cabin area?

No, because my wiper motor is under the hood or on the outside of the windshield, also on cars with under the dash wiper motors, I haven't noticed any oil spots, after you suck a few drops of oil into the wiper motor, once the engine is started any oil excess oil will be sucked into the intake.
