Is there supposed to be a light spring that goes from the tiny eye at the end of the clutch pedal to the crossmember? The crossmember has a hole in the right place with a cotter pin in it to make a hoop and what looks like the remnants of a spring.
If this is so, it would hold the pedal from rattling around and keep the throughout bearing from slapping against the pressure plate.
It's not how fast you can go, but how good you look at 20 MPH.
