I have one that is identical to the unit pictured. Steel shell with the same BowTie insert. Purchased it at the National meet in Springfield.

I have several steel 1928 rad surrounds with the standard backing plate. I presumed they came on the 1/2 ton pickups down here (NZ). With regard to the initial query re bakerlite caps, Austins of the 1920s used a very similar cap. I purchased one some years ago that fits my 25 chev rad. Austin folk may be able to clarify this what model / year.

I've seen a few of those steel surrounds with the corrugated badge backing and a 27 bow tie and have half a dozen different steel surrounds. They were an aftermarket replacement for the aluminium ones when they cracked up. One I had was made by by a Sydney (aus) firm called Brabo and was available in 1929. We had pretty bad roads down here in those days and I guess the vibrations cracked the aluminium

Ray, I took mine off of mine so I could rework all the dents and rust. Were you wanting to see the backside of it?

I really should have been much more specific. I was curious about the back side of the emblem. I had never seen one of those before and wanted to see if it was stud mounted or a press fit.

Thanks for the picture anyway. Sorry to put you to the trouble.

Ray, Mine is off send picture tomorrow. It was press fit in. A round stud on the back about the size of a nickle. Fit right in tight with a small amount of solder.
