Hi
I have a 27 Chevy 4cyl. If 28 same, At TDC the service news tell you to insert distributor at right angles away from center line of motor rotor pointing out. Firing sequence is 1-2-4-3. Then rotate distributor body in counter clockwise direction until breaker points are just ready to open. Tighten down distributor clamp ring. Insert No 1 spark plug wire in outer socket of cap then following clockwise insert wires 2-4-3 respectively. Fire it up. Have a beer.

I would not rely on the timing mark. The flywheel can be put on in six different locations. It is common for any engine that has had the flywheel removed and replaced to have the timing mark miss aligned with the crank/camshaft. I would check for TDC by removing #1 spark plug, rotating until the piston is at its top position and the intake valve has just closed. If the UIC mark is in alignment then proceed knowing the flywheel is aligned with the crank. If not then at least you can position the distributor close to its final position.

To time a '28 engine,go as follows, just in case the flywheel has been moved:
Remove the rocker cover & the sparkplugs
Turn the engine over slowly with the crank handle,
or with the fan.
Watch No.1 intake valve(2nd from the front of the engine)
Keep turning the enginem and if the flywheel position is
correct, the first mark that will show up is the 25
degree ignition timing mark.
Make sure the advance/retard lever on the steering wheel
is in the fully advanced position.
Mesh the distributor so that the rotor button is directly
under the H.T. tower on the distributor cap,and the points
are just starting to crack open.
Tighten the clamp screw & nut,and the jobs is done.

Or,get a copy of the 1927Capitol AA/1928 National AB repair manual, and it will tell you how to do the timing too.
You might want to kill the caps lock button on your keyboard while you're at it too.

wink

Someone has been messing around.

Go to: Members only
Select: Vehicle Technical Information
Select 23 through 30
1st line is the "School is in Session".

School is in Session should still be in "Flip Book Format". I will work on this problem in the following time.

Thanks Ray, I'm actually readying School is in Session right now, I'm about half way through it. I didn't realize that's what it linked to or I wouldn't have bothered you. I thought it might be something else. I'm having timing issues so I was looking for any help.

Thanks
