Autolite 3076 Spark Plug

3076 Autolite Replaces Champion W14. Non-resistor type plug.

I use autolite 3077 a hotter plug I think you cn get them on ebay.
for more info use forum list above and scroll down to 6 volt and search for plug info. This site has many helpful search tools and other info, after a year or more I am still finding out what this site has to offer.
wishing you good luck with your5 spark plug issue

The Champion W16Y,whilst being listed by Champion as being the correct plug for all Chev 4's,has too cold a heat range, and far too short reach. You could try either Champion W89D or Autolite 3077 plugs(same heat range and a longer reach to the combustion chamber),or if you can find them,AC78S plugs.

If you can find them, AC-B is a good plug.

On the AC 78S, look for the older version 3/4 reach versus the new plugs at 1/2 in reach.

Some years ago I prepared a spark plug cross reference for 7/8" SAE plugs. I allocated nine brands over seven heat ranges.I won't go into all that I covered but let us go back to your question.
Basically is a W16Y New Champion plug suitable for your Chevrolet? W16Y is a plug that is slightly above Medium. As such it should work. The coldest plug is a W80N, then W85N then W10, W14,W16Y,W18,W20,W89D and W95D being the hottest.
It appears that eg a W10 plug will work but is difficult to start. Some people use W89D and find that they work well while others find that they are a quick way to destroy a motor.
You can only try plugs and see if they work for your purpose. For what I do a W18 works but having said that I use modern plugs in an insert. Easily replaced and cheap.

What is this reach you speak of how is it measured?

The "reach" is measured from the top or the threads to the end of the threads.

(The top of the threads is the bottom of the plug body).

This plug places the fire closer to the fuel.

I thought the reach was the un-threaded part that extends into the combustion chamber?

Measured from the very tip of the plug to the gasket seat

Ok I can see that (CJP'S 29). My experience with the old style plugs is the threaded parts is about the same long or short reach so just measuring the threaded part to get length was not making sense.
Thank you
