When rebuilding a car that came in boxes, there are a lot questions and head scratching. What type of pivot bolt or pin is used for the cowl vent hinge where it attaches to the body brackets? Is it a bolt with a shoulder? Any suggestions on where to find the correct piece or a suitable substitute? Apptrciate any feedback

It wouldn't hurt to use a shoulder bolt but on mine the hinge for the cowl vent to body connection is riveted to tabs extending from the vent hole frame that is welded to the cowl. The vent hole frame catches water from around the cowl vent and channels it to a tube that runs down under the dash and out an angled hole in the firewall at the back of the engine.

Brian, thanks for the good picture. It helped explain a lot. My mistake in asking question was related to looking at parts on hand and not seeing what is in the body over at the shop. Just returned from shop and the rivet hinges are present in the body, buttttttt, the hinges are frozen and after using some pentrating oil and pliers, I haven't been able to break the pivot free. It tends to want to bend the welded tabs, which I am afraid of breaking. I plan to go slow on this and apply several types of penetrating solutions. If anyone has experience in freeing up the hinges, please advise

I recently lived a similar experience with my '37 half ton. I posted the gory details in chat in the Body, Sheet metal section in early April this year. The long and short of it is I ended up having to use a Dremel tool to cut the bolts off and then replaced them with new shoulder bolts.
Good luck!
