On a 1929, where does the accelerator return spring attach? Before I restored mine it was attached to a bolt on the exaust manifold/exaust pipe connection. That doesn't look like where the factory would attach it. The filling station sold me an 11 1/2" spring meaning it should attach somewhere else then the exaust system, but where?

On my 31 coupe it attaches to the manifold. I seem to remember that I had to shorten the FS spring to make it work. I am sure that others will be answering your question soon. Good luck.

One end of the throttle return spring attaches to the front exhaust pipe flange stud and the other end of the spring attaches to the throttle rod at the throttle arm on the carburetor. That is the factory installation. The spring that the Filling Station sells is a universal spring and the length needs to be cut for the correct installation.

On one of my stove bolt cars has a tab that looks like a tear drop. It has one large hole to go over the exhaust stud and a small hole about 1/8" that the spring goes in. It looks very nice on the car. It looks stamped but I'm not sure if it is original or not. I'm making some now out of stainless if you are interested it sure looks better than the spring wrapped around the stud.
You guys will need to tell me if it is original or not.

The part you describe was used on the late 4 cylinders and 1929 to attach brake return springs on the cross shaft arms. It was also used on later cars for a similar purpose. Should work but as the JYD points out was not originally used in that location.
