I have one for a 31, that I would swap for one from a 30, similar condition. 31 has the rounded end correct?

Rounded end??? All of the 1929-31 air cleaners have a round nipple where they slip into the air horn of the carburetor. Are you talking about the top of the air cleaner? If so, the top of the 1931 air cleaner is flat and it is rounded on the edge.

Yes the main body of the 1931 air cleaner/silencer has a one piece pressed body which has rounded corners (Rear.firewall side, not carburetor side), the 29-30 are made of muliple pieces with a sheetmetal folded seam joint on both ends of the body similar to a food can.

I can send a picture if you like. The 30 air cleaner is somewhat "flat" on the end pointing towards the firewall. Air is sucked in on the carb side of the unit. The 31 air cleaner is somewhat "rounded" on the side pointing towards the firewall.
I was just at a swap meet and picked up an air cleaner for for the RJH-08 carb. However, on this one the air sucked in on the firewall side of the cleaner. I think it is off a chrysler. I may use it because it has the hole for the tube that goes to the crankcase. The 31 aircleaner I have does not.
Do they make a reproduction tube that attaches the crankcase vent to the air cleaner?

The air cleaner that you purchased at the swap meet is probably an early or late '29 Chevy. They are different as the crankcase tube is at the back (firewall) of the block on the early one and ~ 1/3 of the way back from the front on the late one.

The 1930 air cleaner is not flat! It looks like a round tuna can with a big dome on top. There are fins on the back of the air cleaner (carburetor side). The air cleaner with the fins on the firewall side sounds like a 1929 Chevrolet air cleaner.
