I have a 350 rebuilt motor in my 57 chev that I have not fired up yet. I bought a L98 1990 corvette motor at a swap meet this year that I want to put in the 57. I have been told that if my 350 motor is a newer year model I can swap the parts from the L98 on to the 350 block. The L98 has 90K on it. How do I find the date on the 350 block? What years of the 350 blocks will interchage with the L98 motors?

Joe: I did not find any numbers on the passinger side of the block and non on the drivers side. I did find these numbers located behind the drivers side head where the trans bolts up to the block. 19 GM 3970010 and then there was a small set of numbers above the filter. 010 Thanks for the help. On the back of the block where the 010 number was, there is another casting. It will have a letter & then a number or 2 & then another number, like B 17 6. See if you can find that. It is usually near the area of the the distributer

The numbers I had you looking for would be by where the water pump mounts to the block behind the alternator if it's mounted on the pass side.......Joe

Joe: I found this number behind the distributor hole, B 12 7 there was no numbers at the water pump location behind the alternator. I think these numbers were milled off the block when I had it rebuilt. Hope this helps, thanks, Harold

Actually that casting number was used for 302, 327 and 350 engines.

The B 12 7 indicates Feb 12th & the 7 would be 1977 since the 010 block was not used in 1987 or 1967. The block would be a 350. This casting number is not always a 4 bolt main. Some blocks that have come from Mexico are 2 bolt...just a little tid-bit
